Take it from the filmmakers who made it to LA this year – there will always be something you wish you would’ve known before you set out to make your movie. Before the 20th LA Film Festival questionnaires were sent out to filmmakers with films screening at LA Film Festival asking them a variety of questions, including “what’s the one thing you wish someone had told you before you started your film?” Their answers were compiled. The 2014 Sheffield Doc/Fest wrapped yesterday when awards were handed out. The festival, which ran from June 7-12 in the northern England city of Sheffield, provided not only the opportunity to see nonfiction films from some of the most established names in documentary today as well as first-time filmmakers, but it also served as a resource for filmmakers looking for advice about how to get their film off the ground and how to make a career as a documentary filmmaker.
